Peni Aspen Seniceva Nakulanikoro is the first baby to be born at the new Ba Hospital.

And because of this, his mother, Ulamila Reva, has named him after the facility.

Ms Reva, 27, of Sorokoba Village in Ba is a single mother of two.

He was born on April 9 at 5.50pm, the very first day Ba Hospital opened its doors to the public. He weighed 2.95kg.

Ms Reva was handed a small token of appreciation by the Aspen Medical team in the presence of the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

“I am a proud mother. I feel excited to be the first mum to have delivered a baby inside the new Ba Hospital,” said Ms Reva.

“I gave birth to my first child at the old Ba Mission Hospital, this is a new change of environment for me.

“It’s a challenge to play the role of both mum and dad but I am grateful for having a supportive family,” she added.

The new facility which has been relocated to Clopcott Street is managed by the Health Care (Fiji) Pte Limited, trading as Aspen Medical.

“I didn’t know the gender of my child, I wanted it to be a surprise,” the 28-year-old mother said.

Her husband, Mr Vuevue is a vegetable farmer and the sole breadwinner of their family.

“I thank my husband for taking good care of our sons while I was in labor.”

She thanked the staff members of the hospital and highlighted how clean and beautiful the environment at the new hospital was.
