Families are spending the next few days completing their back-to-school shopping.

Despite the unfavourable weather affecting the country, families such as the Ravouvou of Samabula, Suva, replenish supplies to ensure their children got all their stationery before school starts next week.

Father Mikaele Ravouvou said their shopping was budgeted well over the eight weeks of holidays.

“I believe proper planning and engagement with our children will make huge impact in their academic progress,” Mr Ravouvou said.

“I told my children that nothing comes free, but through hard work they can achieve anything. A lot of issues with children is because of no proper communication at home. In some homes kids are being left on their own,” he said.

“The proper way to address this issue is to have proper family time, more communication and understanding from parents.”
