The efforts of law enforcement in combating drug-related crime have been praised as ongoing and tireless, even as the issue continues to affect communities nationwide.

Officials highlighted the challenges of addressing drug use and distribution, including among young people.

Former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama made the comments during a traditional welcoming ceremony for Fijian peacekeepers returning from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

He said that while more work was still needed, police officers were working hard to curb the spread of drugs.

"We are doing well, the police are working overtime to fight it," he said, emphasising the importance of continued vigilance.

Mr Bainimarama expressed hope that the police would intensify their efforts and strengthen their response to the growing drug problem in Fiji, which impacts all levels of society, including children.
