Queen Victoria School Year 12 student Sakiusa Bainivalu is looking forward to representing Fiji in the 2025 Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

AYIMUN engages youth leaders from all over the world and provides a platform for them to share perspectives and opinions in solving world issues.

The event scheduled for January 17-20, next year, is organised by the International Global Network (IGN), AYIMUN.

Sakiusa is excited as this is a total new platform for him as he has never represented Fiji in a similar event.

The Tabuya, Nabukelevu-ira, Kadavu native said: “This is a huge breakthrough for me. To be selected out of thousands of participants and to be around other people and share thoughts and opinions is phenomenal.”

Sakiusa was considered after he wrote a short essay about social problems in Fiji such as domestic violence, rising illicit drug cases, loss of culture, and how they impacted society.

“I expressed my opinion on how attending the International MUN conference can mould me into a productive and inspiring leader,” Sakiusa said.

His parents paid U.S$779 (FJ$1785) for the trip to cover his hotel accommodation, transport and food.

He intends to study medicine and specialise in non-communicable diseases when he returns.
