The Seasonal Worker Programme has the blessings of the chiefs and the vanua, says Minister for Employment, Parveen Bala.

He made the comment on the eve of farewelling 198 Fijians who will be working in Australia.

“Villages are not empty from this scheme but families are enjoying the improvement of their livelihood,” he said yesterday.

Mr Bala said the scheme has seen the construction of improved homes, education of children and their ability to meet village/church financial commitments.

He assured those present and the naysayers that local employers were not disadvantaged by Fijians leaving the country.
