Ban Placed On Anti-allergy Syrup, Allergo Cetirizine
The ministry is urging people, who have used this medication and show symptoms, to seek medical advice and report consumption of this medicine to medical professionals.

The anti-allergy syrup, Allergo Cetirizine is toxic when consumed and will prove fatal in children, warns the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
In an advisory issued yesterday, the public, pharmacies, importers and wholesalers of medicine were advised that the product was contaminated and should not be consumed.
Studies conducted have found the medicine to include Alergo Cetirizine which is an antihistamine.

Antihistamine blocks the effects of a substance called histamine in the body which can be harmful to users.
Members of the public are further advised to be vigilant particularly because at the moment the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services cannot confirm which pharmaceutical companies have imported the medicinal product into the country.
The anti-allergy syrup comes in 120ml bottles and each 5ml of syrup contains 5mg of antihistamine.
