We must continue to be vigilant about any potential creep of regulation of any kind that would threaten the gains we have made in recent years.
That was the strong message delivered by Women in Media Fiji lead and co-founder Rosi Doviverata, during her opening address at their inaugural conference 2025 in Suva yesterday.
The Women in Media Fiji conference at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva brings together women not only from mainstream media organisations, but also from the private sector and Government across Fiji and the Pacific region.

Inaugural conference
Ms Doviverata said the event, hosted under the theme 'Resilience in a Rapidly Evolving Media Landscape', marked a historic moment not just for Fiji, but for the entire Pacific.
"This conference is more than a gathering. It is a movement-a space where women journalists, editors, producers, media advocates and allies can come together to share stories, challenge norms, and build lasting alliances," she said.
"This is also a critical moment in the history of the media industry in Fiji. What happens in Fiji's industry also influences what happens in other Pacific countries.
"To our regional delegates-from Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, Samoa, Niue, Kiribati, and beyondthank you for making the journey to be with us. Your presence is a powerful reminder that while our islands may be separated by oceans, we are united by purpose, passion, and a shared vision for a more equitable media landscape."
She thanked sponsors and partners for supporting what she described as a shared dream, and encouraged participants to be bold in their conversations, kind in their collaborations, and unwavering in their commitment to empowering women in media.
The two-day conference ends today.
