Best female cadet at Nabala Secondary School’s passing-out parade in Macuata yesterday, 19-year-old Kesaia Ligai, has vowed to prioritise hard work and dedication over social life demands.
Being awarded the cadet prize was a significant achievement for her, and she now aims to excel academically and pursue a career in nursing.
"I want to become a nurse and serve the public with my dedication to helping others in pain," she said.
Kesaia expressed pride and gratitude in sharing the moment with her father.
"I miss my mother, who I lost when I was in Year 6; however, I have made her proud," she said.
Reflecting on the message shared by the chief guest, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACPO) Kasiano Vusonilawe, during the parade, Kesaia said she learned that sacrifices are essential for success.
"I have learnt that I have to work hard academically and sacrifice my time rather than follow my friends or peers," she said.
Breaking barriers and encouraging more girls to join the cadet program, she noted that cadet training is challenging, but the pride of conducting parade drills is a privilege. She credited her strong fitness levels for helping her endure the tough sunny conditions during the parade.
Kesaia also emphasised the importance of staying away from drugs to maintain health and safety.
"I want to keep myself healthy and far from the reach of illicit drugs," she said.
