Charan Jeath Singh assured Labasa residents that his ministry would handle future Girmit Day celebrations.

The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs said funds would be allocated and every town and centre including Subrail Park in Labasa would have big celebrations.

“This year we are concentrating on a bigger scale celebration in Suva on May 15 because it has been designated a public holiday,” Mr Singh said.

Being a fourth generation descendent of Girmitiya he thanked everyone who contributed towards the development of this nation and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka setting aside a public holiday to mark Girmit Day.
