Parliament is expected to have a robust debate on Thursday about the Media Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA).
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, while tabling the Bill in Parliament yesterday, said there was a need to repeal the Act as certain contents were controversial and undemocratic as it breached the right to freedom and expression.
Introduced in 2010, the MIDA Act has widely been labelled as unjust and as draconian law hindering free reporting of the press.

Mr Turaga highlighted this does not mean media organisations and reporters could report on anything and everything without authentic sources and facts.
He said it provided a start for freedom of the press.
