Despite being turned away by three prominent Suva-based schools in 2020, Chance Wong redefined his academic journey on Wednesday, after scooping the Sacred Heart College Dux award.

The head boy of the school initially enrolled in three prominent schools, determined to get a place, but was not accepted.

At the beginning of Term I in 2020, Wong took a chance for Sacred Heart College where he was immediately awarded a spot.

The 18-year-old has earned the school’s admiration.

During the graduation, speakers and teachers acknowledged Wong’s well-mannered attitude.

Wong said earning a position at Sacred Heart College is a ‘blessing in disguise’.

He said everything happened for a reason and is thankful that he took a chance.

“My main inspiration is my single mum, she has shown me and my other siblings how to be patient with life especially when obstacles come your way,” Wong said.

“This year hasn’t been easy, serving as the head boy has been a test of endurance.”

Wong attributed that anything is possible through perseverance, dedication and humbleness.

Wong is currently exploring academic options as he sets he’s eyes in furthering his tertiary education.
