Ledua pleads guilty to four separate counts of  stealing

A man charged with breaking into the Bargain Saver Shop in Suva and stealing $75,744 in cash pleaded guilty yesterday.

Kelepi Ledua appeared before Suva High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo and was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Talei Kean.

On the first count of aggravated burglary, on August 7, 2016, while equipped with a pinch bar, a hammer and an hacksaw blade Ledua al­legedly broke into the shop with intent to com­mit theft.

For the second count he allegedly stole FJ$30,000 and AUS$30,000 equiva­lent to FJ$45,744 all to the total sum of FJ$75,744 the property of Bargain Sav­er with the intention of permanently depriving the shop of its property.

On the third count he wilfully and unlawfully damaged the ceiling pan­el worth $100 and a safe locker valued at $20,000 all to the value of $20,100 the property of Tebara Halal Meat.

On the fourth count, he resisted a Police consta­ble while being arrested.

State lawyer Sujata Lo­dhia requested the court for more time to present the summary of facts of the case.

The case was adjourned to March 16, 2018 for the State to also submit the sentencing submissions and for defence to submit Ledua’s plea mitigation.

The accused was further remanded in custody.

Vashist Muni students, teachers mark Holi Festival

Students and teachers of Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School celebrat­ed Holi yesterday at the school.

Headteacher Divendra Bijay said they celebrated Holi with 1200 students and 40 staff members at the school premises.

“It is a multicultural school and we all had an exciting celebration of Holi,” Mr Bijay said.

During the celebration they sang Holi songs and various items were pre­sented by the students.

“If you want to be happy in life always do right and good things because good always overcome evil,” Mr Bijay said.

His message is to live the right way even when things proved difficult be­cause there was no gain without pain.

Holi festival is now be­ing celebrated around the world.
