Lautoka School for Special Education’s hostel warden: There is a place for your children who have special needs to come

Former kindergarten teacher at the Lautoka School for Special Education, Lice Dalituicama has advised parents to continue to bring their children to school.
Ms Dalituicama made this comment at the school’s kindergarten graduation on Wednesday.
There were a total of 16 graduates.

Ms Dalituicama had been the kindergarten teacher at the school for 17 years and retired from teaching in 2018. She was now the school’s hostel warden.
She encouraged parents who had children with special needs that there would always be a learning space and environment for them.
Ms Dalituicama said in her 17 years of teaching, she had seen an increase in the number of students at the school, which was a positive sign.
“My advice to parents with children who have special needs and are yet to join school, is that there is a place for them to come and learn,” she said.
“Don’t keep them at home, at least here they have friends to talk to.”
She also urged the graduates to live life to the fullest and focus on the positives.
“I take my hat off to the teachers for giving their all to these children with special needs,” she added.
“Having to be a teacher here at the school has changed me in many ways, I felt that my work became very personal with them, I grew closer to these children and that is something that I will always treasure.
“We really have to bring ourselves down to their level and be understanding towards them.”
