Residents of Tubarua, Nasau in Nadi are hoping that the broken bridge at their area is fixed as soon as possible.

Niranjan Prasad, 81, a heart patient who alleged that he missed his medical check-up said his daughter had to throw his medicine over the bridge to the other side because no one could cross.

Mr Prasad said when ever it rains, it would be impossible to cross the bridge, but now the recent flooding caused by Cyclone Ana destroyed the bridge.

“Now it is difficult for me to go to the hospital.”\

He said it would be difficult for those who need urgent medical attention like pregnant women, children and those who need to go to work to support their families.

The Fiji Roads Authority acting chief executive officer, Kamal Prasad stated that FRA was working day and night to complete the much-needed work at the earliest opportunity.

He said FRA was inspecting roads in a sequence priorising the main supply route.

Advisory councilor, Nitesh Kumar Singh said there were 26 households who had been using that public access road.

He said the heavy rain on past Monday destroyed the bridge. They have raised the residents concerns to the relevant authority.

He added that the nearest health centre and Nadi Hospital was about 11 kilometres from the area.
