Two brothers are seeking justice after their 70-year-old father, Hindu priest Annayalam Pillay, died in a road accident along the Nadi Back Road on Tuesday morning.

Police alleged Mr Pillay of Namulomulo, Nadi, was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.

He was rushed to Nadi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Pillay, who had been the sole carer for his two adult sons since his wife's death, was described as the family's lifeline.

One of the sons has an intellectual disability while the other, who is unmarried, works harvesting sugar cane in Sigatoka.

Subramani Pillay, 45, said his father's death had left them devastated.

"Every morning he walked to the Waqadra temple for prayers. He was fit, hardworking and took care of everything at home. Life won't be the same without him. He was everything to us," he said.

The brothers now want answers.

"We want to know what really happened.

"That driver took away our father's life and it hurts us so much," Subramani said.

Police confirmed the driver will be questioned soon as investigations continue.

The national road death toll now stands at 35 compared to 32 for the same period last year.
