Bua Chief Makes an Impassioned Plea
“The Government and the Fiji Police Force are doing what they can. Can we, the people, do our job?” Ratu Makutu asked.

Think of our children and about our future generation.
This was the plea by Tui Bua, Ratu Makutu Nagagavoka, who reminded his people that it was everyone’s duty to protect their province.
Ratu Makutu said the meeting was a time for everyone to address issues that affect them.

He shared that, like other parts of Fiji, fighting drugs to protect their own people was something that needed urgent attention.
“The Government and the Fiji Police Force are doing what they can. Can we, the people, do our job?” Ratu Makutu asked.
“I plead with all of you to think of our children. Drugs are a real issue, and we should make decisions that will benefit us. I hope that the chiefs of Bua will go out there and talk to our people and address the issue. We must think of our future generations.”
He hopes that the questions that the people have will be answered.
“The provincial meetings should not be a place where we only hear issues and nothing is done about it. I hope that when we go back, we will take actions,” Ratu Makutu said.
“I hope that the ministers and civil servants present yesterday will give us answers to the questions that we have.
“There are a lot of significant issues that are always brought up during the meeting and are not addressed.”
He said the provincial leaders were willing to work with the Government through their offices.
However, communication and follow-up were key to this collaborative approach.
