After waiting nearly 10 years, communities in Bua are preparing to regain a vital link with the expected opening of the new Government-funded footbridge at Lomanikoro next month.

Tui Bua Ratu Makutu Nagagavoka said the long-awaited bridge would benefit six villages, nearby settlements, and students and teachers from five schools.

"We are thankful to government for thinking about our people by helping us have a bridge and completing the project on schedule," Ratu Makutu said.

He said he expected the million-dollar bridge to be officially opened next month.

"So many people's lives will be changed and improved especially our children's travel to school."

The original bridge collapsed in 2015.

Once completed, the footbridge will provide a safer and more reliable crossing for more than 1000 residents, including students, farmers and community members who rely on the route for their daily activities.

Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau said the project reflected the Government's commitment to improving rural infrastructure and ensuring communities had better access to essential services and economic opportunities.

"This footbridge is more than just a structure, it is a vital connection that supports education, livelihoods, and community well-being," Mr Tuisawau said.

"Government remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in our development journey."

The Public Works Department's Northern Division team continues to work to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.
