The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has fully utilised its budget allocated for the rip and remake programme.

FRA chief executive officer Kamal Prasad said the programme would continue in the next financial year or when it was deemed to be the most cost-effective solution considering its budget allocation.

“All capital works projects are in progress, but routine maintenance has slowed down. The rip and remake is being used as a periodic maintenance treatment,” Mr Prasad said.

“The budget allocated for the programme is $50million, but works worth $58.2m have been done.

“An additional $8.2million is from the maintenance budget as works were undertaken to reduce routine maintenance costs on some sections of the roads and improve vehicle occupant safety.”

Mr Prasad added that FRA had completed 260 lane kilometres in this financial year, and no projects were halted.
