Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu is expected to visit Nabavatu Village in the District of Dreketi, Macuata, later this week as part of his first official tour since assuming his new portfolio.

Mr Bulitavu said some work in the village has already been completed and further works are on schedule.

“For those still living in tents, we have a budget of $60,000,” he said.

He said efforts were under way to address outstanding issues to ensure projects were completed on time.

Mr Bulitavu’s new ministerial responsibilities came into effect on January 19 and focus primarily on disaster management and community development.

As part of his Northern Division engagements, he said he had already visited the Commissioner Northern’s Office earlier this week.

Mr Bulitavu, who previously served as Minister for Environment and Climate Change, said he had also been briefed on the issue of littering, which he addressed during his former tenure.

“Littering is a common issue, and we hope to continue combating it,” he said.

He added that communities and stakeholders must also play their part, saying the Government alone could not address the problem.
