The Burekalou community, in partnership with the Government, has completed a new footpath project to improve mobility around the village.
The footpath, which will benefit 83 households, represents a significant step towards enhancing local infrastructure.
Burekalou resident Torika Valamalua expressed the community's excitement about the development:

"The Burekalou community came together for the footpath, and we will later add railings and solar lights.
"We have never had a footpath around the village. We used to walk on muddy ground, and the soil would get all over the houses. This footpath will benefit the 83 households in the village."
The project was officially commissioned last Friday by the Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna.
Speaking at the event, the Assistant Minister commended the community for their active involvement in the initiative and emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Government and local communities.
"It is important to recognise that no development can be successfully undertaken by Government alone; collaboration is essential," said Mr Tubuna.

He noted that the footpath project, costing approximately $32,000, was made possible through funding from the Office of the Prime Minister and significant contributions from the community in both funding and labour.
"This was a project we carried out together with the community. It signifies the Government working hand-in- hand with the community to address their needs," he said.
Mr Tubuna also highlighted the footpath's advantages for individuals with mobility challenges, particularly wheelchair users, who will now find it easier to move around the village.
While acknowledging that achieving unity in rural communities can sometimes be challenging, he praised the residents of Burekalou for their exemplary teamwork.
"The Coalition Government is committed to supporting you, regardless of your location; our presence will always be felt, and we will strive to meet your needs," he said.
