Classic Buses Limited has strongly rejected claims by the Fiji Tourism Workers Union alleging unsafe bus conditions following an incident at Denarau Monday morning when their bus veered off a bridge and fell into the creek.
The bus landed on its roof, 50 passengers were treated at the Nadi Hospital for injuries they sustained from the accident.
Classic Buses Limited general manager in Nadi, Siteri Bakani, said the union’s comments were misleading and risked causing unnecessary panic.

Ms Bakani added that the safety and well-being of passengers and staff remain their utmost priority at all times.
“The bus involved was fully compliant with all LTA safety and roadworthiness requirements,” Ms Bakani said.
“A detailed inspection conducted by the LTA confirmed that the vehicle had no mechanical defects and was 100 per cent roadworthy.”
Classic Buses are installed with GPS tracking.
FTWU had stated that buses are poorly maintained, placing workers’ lives at risk daily.
Meanwhile National Fire Authority chief executive officer, Puamau Sowane, stressed the need for strict adherence to road rules as the festive season approaches.
Mr Sowane urges drivers and pedestrians to prioritise safety and comply with speed limits, warning that careless driving and overcrowded roads can quickly result in tragedy.
“PSV drivers carry the public’s trust every day. They must lead by example and ensure safe travel for all,” Mr Sowane said.
He stated that Fiji’s road death toll now stands at 59 compared to 44 within the same period in 2024.
