Fiji Bus Operators Association president and KBL Buses executive chairman, Nisar Ali Shah, has applauded Government’s swift action in containment procedures soon after confirming a community transmission case.
Despite the brief panic experienced throughout the Western Division, Mr Shah said: “I think the Government has reacted fast and efficiently to fight this off and people are coming forward.”
Mr Shah said the bus operators were scheduling services as per the Government’s instructions.

He said the operators were providing services to areas in line with Government’s instructions.
“At the moment, our services are from Tuvu to Momi and to Waiwai,” Mr Shah said.
“We are servicing Ba and Lautoka so what is happening, we come to the checkpoint then we return. People are not supposed to cross the border. Then from this side, we go there to the communities then we turn back because people are not supposed to cross,” he said.
Mr Shah added that all their services was normal within the Lautoka and Nadi areas.
For other bus companies, he confirmed that they were operating minimal buses because there has been less travel.
He urged commuters to also practise social distancing when boarding buses.
“If you see a bus is 50 per cent full, do not get inside or wait for the next bus and our drivers know that there should be social distancing so it’s already there,” he said.
