Suresh Sweets shop manager Shalendra Chand said he was grateful that business was slowly improving after the Lautoka confinement period ended on April 7.

Instead of allowing customers to sit and eat inside the shop, Suresh Sweets shop now only offers takeaways.

This was inevitable given the Government measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“We decided on giving takeaways just to respect the government’s advisory, but we are getting 100 to 120 customers a day,” he said.

“Wednesday was a good day. But on Saturday and Sunday people go to supermarkets for groceries and rarely buy any fast-food.”

Like other businesses, Mr Chand is uncertain of what the future holds for the popular confectionary shop.

“Business owners needed to make well informed decisions based on the potential losses that may be incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After the lockdown was lifted, business was a bit better because of Easter, but there’s a long way to go and at this point we as business owners have to be smart and make better decisions,” he said.
