A 44-year-old businessman of Lami has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Ravindra Singh appeared before Magistrate Deepika Prakash on Monday and charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, namely Methamphetamine, weighing 38.92 gram.

Singh’s lawyer, Akuila Naco, asked for the court to grant bail.

However, the prosecutor objected to the application saying the alleged offence was becoming rampant in society.

Mr Naco told the court that they should consider his client innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Prakash granted Singh $2000 cash bail and ordered him to surrender his passport.

A stop departure has been imposed on Singh and he has been further ordered to report to the Lami Police Station once a week.

The case is adjourned to March 18 for plea.
