The Fiji Cabbies Operators Association has welcomed the removal of 20 cents per litre on fuel duty.
The association previously operated as Taxi Five Operators Association.
The newly formed association’s general secretary, Sanjesh Lal, said it would be a huge relief for the 20 plus taxi operators in the coming months.

Mr Lal said it was a welcoming news, especially when the majority of the taxi operators were slowly recovering from the pandemic.
He acknowledged Government for implementing the Open Taxi Ranking System that would come into effect on April 25.
“This system will take Fiji’s taxi industry to a new era in public transportation which will be in line with international standards,” said Mr Lal.
“This system will allow taxi drivers to have more options from where to operate from and they will be able to move around.
“For the public also, there will be more taxis available now. Instead of a person walking to a taxi base, taxis will be readily available for them, this will be very convenient for the customers and drivers.”
Meanwhile, Mr Lal added the association would also be launching its new website – www.fijicabbies.com which would outline the services and vision in taking the industry to the next level.
“The industry has been left behind with the changing times. It is now exploring options to move to a digital base with the implementation of online registration of members and use of mobile wallets like M-PAiSA and MyCash service for payments,” he added
