Cakaudrove Festival raises $48k

A four-day festival in Savusavu last week raised $48,000, which had been earmarked for youth development projects.

The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was co-hosted by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival committee coordinator Aubrey Whippy said the 14 queen contestants raised $30,716.15.

He thanked the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, and his team including divisional North manager Walter Matalau for their tremendous assistance and having faith in the Cakaudrove Youth Council for organisng its first carnival.

Miss Vaturova, Temalesi Tuiwalese, was crowned Miss Cakaudrove Youth at Narain Park in Savusavu last Friday.

When asked how the funds would be utilised, Mr Whippy said they would discuss how to split the funds for investments, development projects for Cakaudrove and operational costs.

“Next year, we plan to have a bigger and better carnival and hopefully having all 15 districts represented and more representation from other ethnic communities like the Indo-Fijian, Rabi and Kioa to name a few.”

He thanked the sponsors and everyone who helped to make this programme successful.

Rosi Toroca, representing the district of Koroalau, was crowned Miss Charity.

Miss Koroalau raised $7612.
