The Labasa Town Council’s surveillance system paid off when it captured people in the act of illegally dumping household rubbish in town.
Council special administrator, Ami Kohli, said these illegal actions were captured through the aid of the hidden Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
In a specific incident that happened on Wednesday at 10am, a man was identified (in a CCTV footage) parking his vehicle and then opening his vehicle boot to get a plastic bag of rubbish to be illegally placed in a town public space (beside the Fushion Bar).

This CCTV cameras revealed the perpetrator’s identification and vehicle details.
“We have been trying to catch these offenders and finally we got evidence to show people caught red-handed,” Mr Kohli said.
“Previously people dumped their home garbage and waste in the street rubbish bins and other places in town.”
