Surviving cancer was a moving factor for Joneti Rauvukula.

She is among women participating at the 6th National Women’s Expo which ends in Suva today.

Ms Rauvukula turns to producing handicrafts to keep her occupied nowadays.

It helps her forget the pains and struggles she endured while battling cancer.

She is part of the expo for the first time.

“When I made my entrance yesterday with all the display being set up, I felt so emotional because of what women can do despite the odds they faced every day,” Ms Rauvukula said.

“The expo has given me the idea that anything can be made from resources around us.”

Now living a healthy life, Ms Rauvukula said making handicraft with members of the women’s group at Naitutu Village in Tailevu, had given a fresh perspective that anything could be made out of trash.

“I commend the Ministry of Women and stakeholders for being inclusive and having a platform such as this for women to be empowered financially,” Ms Rauvukula said.

“Women play a vital role in building and nurturing families going beyond traditional barriers.”

She believes women can earn also through selling handicrafts and going beyond using their strength to provide for their families.
