Lautoka cane farmer Suresh Chand is still in awe and at a loss for words following his open-heart surgery at Pacific Specialist Healthcare facility in Nadi.

“I never dreamt I could have this surgery here at this beautiful hospital,” an emotional Mr Chand said.

The 73-year-old former Lautoka City Council contractor said he started feeling sick with slight chest pains many years ago.

“I kept thinking of a heart operation and mainly the cost,” he said.

Mr Chand visited Lautoka Hospital when it worsened and was sent to Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Suva.

“I got my angiogram done at CWM, which cost me over $1300.

“I was advised that I needed a bypass surgery and was sent back to Lautoka Hospital.

“It was there that I was advised to try PSH in Nadi, and I have not regretted my decision to come here and get the surgery done.”

Mr Chand was sitting up in bed yesterday, full of hope for his future.

“I am feeling great, and I want to thank Mr Parvish Kumar (PSH CEO and Director) and his team of doctors and nurses.

“The way I am being looked after here is the best as they pay close attention to you,” Mr Chand said.

His son, Samil Sanjesh Chand, who flew in from abroad, said he was amazed at the facilities at PSH and was happy his father made the right choice to have the surgery done here.

“At least we are with him at the hospital,” he said.
