Seventy-six graduates of the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) were reminded that their skills and values will play a vital role in shaping Fiji’s future as they officially graduated today.
The ceremony, held at the Fiji National University campus in Nasinu, brought together families, officials, and partners, celebrating the one-year journey of students from across Fiji.
Speaking during the graduation, First Secretary to the New Zealand High Commission, Adam Chrighton, congratulated the graduates, describing their achievement as a reflection of resilience and commitment.

“Your decision to pursue technical training reflects a deep sense of purpose and service. In a world where jobs are changing, practical skills like building homes, bringing power and water to communities, and repairing machinery will always be in demand,” Mr Chrighton said.
He also highlighted New Zealand’s ongoing support to CATD, noting that demand for its programs far exceeds capacity. “We are exploring ways to help expand its reach and impact so more young people can benefit,” he said.
CATD manager training Opeti Ritova, said the institution’s approach goes beyond teaching technical skills.
“We are building a generation that is spiritually grounded, physically healthy, culturally rooted, and economically capable,” he said.
Mr Ritova acknowledged support from the Government of Japan, which recently funded a new dormitory and classroom block. He said CATD’s holistic training equips graduates not just for jobs, but to become leaders in their communities.
For many of the graduates, the day marked more than a personal milestone. It was also a celebration for their families, who gathered in numbers to witness their achievements and the promise of a brighter future for Fiji.
