Catholics Receive Ashes, Begin Lenten Season
The ashes symbolises man’s mortality- as the priest reminds each individual that, “Remember you are dust and dust you shall return”.

More than 100 parishioners filled the Holy Family Catholic Church in Labasa yesterday to observe Ash Wednesday.
The solemn occasion marks the beginning of the Lenten period over 40 days. It ends on Good Friday during Easter celebrations.
Students of Holy Family primary and secondary School were also present.

It is commonly observed with the distribution of ashes and with fasting. He said most Catholics would fast for the period of 40 days to signify their commitment over the lenten period.
Parish priest, Father Euikyun Jung, reminded parishioners of the role they played during this time of prayer and fasting.
Father Jung called for peace among parishioners and for love to always prevail.
