Installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the main Lautoka Market is under way as part of a security upgrade by the Lautoka City Council.

Chairperson of the Lautoka Board of Special Administrators Taitusi Rasoki said the council remained committed to improving public facilities and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors.

“Lautoka City Council is here to look after the welfare of the citizens of Lautoka,” Mr Rasoki said.

He said CCTV cameras would also be installed at the newly upgraded Lautoka Bus Station and other identified hotspot areas around the city.

Mr Rasoki said the project aimed to enhance security and protect vendors, customers and market property through improved monitoring.

He said the installation was long overdue and acknowledged the support of council management in delivering the project.

“Once completed, the system will contribute to a safer, more secure and well-managed market environment for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lautoka Ratepayers Association president Narayan Reddy acknowledged the council’s efforts and commitment to improving public safety through the project.
