Guests at the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji on Denarau, Nadi, and students were urged to change the way they lived as they observed Earth Hour last Saturday night.
The observation was part of efforts to create awareness on the reality of climate change, with students from schools in Nadi being part of the event.
Radisson Blu Resort Activities Manager Rafaele Delai said, “We at Radisson Blu strongly support Earth Hour and we do practise saving energy and switch off non- essential light here at work.

The resort has been recognised by Earth Check as a leader among sustainable tourism operators that are environmentally friendly.
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji celebrated the event by inviting in-house guests and schools to participate in a candle-lit ceremony that included choir singing, learning about traditional Fijian culture and how to live without modern-day technology.
Nigel Tang, a returnee guest from Australia, was part of the event with his family. He said,
“We believe Earth Hour is important, especially to participate in with our children to not only raise awareness across generations, but also in publically participating in this initiative brings a community focus on the endeavour to reduce our carbon footprint collectively”.
He added it is always easier to change how we do things when the whole community participates and cultural change begins.
“I believe that Earth Hour can be the catalyst for change for some communities through education and communities coming together engaging businesses such as Radisson Blu and then equipping them with information to help them reduce their electricity use,” Mr Tang said.
