The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has confirmed withdrawing charges of obtaining a financial advantage against the former Post Fiji chief executive officer, Anirudha Bansod.

Bansod appeared in court on August 21, 2023, charged with one count each of abuse of office and general dishonesty causing a loss.

In the second case, Bansod, along with Ashish Chand and Dharmend Chand, is charged with obtaining a financial advantage.

It was alleged that Bansod received $15,000 as a relocation allowance despite his contract not being up for renewal, thus obtaining a financial advantage unlawfully.

Ashish Chand, during his role as Head of Human Resources, and Dharmend Chand, as the Acting Head of Finance, are accused of facilitating the payment of the relocation allowance, knowing the status of Bansod’s contract and his ineligibility for financial benefit.

In response to queries, FICAC confirmed it had withdrawn the second case, in which Bansod was charged with the other two.

FICAC also confirmed the second case was now closed.

“At the discretion of the commission, if there is insufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution, the commission will withdraw the matter accordingly,” FICAC said.

“The commission is continuing with the prosecution against the former CEO for the first matter, whereby Bansod is solely charged with abuse of office and causing a loss.”
