Charity Ball Raises $170k for Pacific Eye Institute

More than $170,000 was raised during the inaugural charity ball for the Pacific Eye Institute.
The Black and White event, jointly organised by the First Lady, Vilomena Katonivere, Emily Lalabalavu and the Prime Minister’s wife Sulueti Rabuka, gathered a good crowd towards the Pacific Eye Institute.
The First Lady said the ‘Black and White’ theme for the charity event represented blindness and sight.

“We are grateful for agencies like the Pacific Eye Institute that exist to provide invaluable eye care with state-of-the-art equipment and knowledge sharing on relatable health concerns like diabetes and non-communicable diseases that can cause vision impairment and blindness.”
She said the Institute was the product of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation New Zealand.
It is the eye care specialist for the public health facility, known as the Colonial War Memorial Hospital Eye Clinic.
