Charlie Charters charged after 48-hour detention

Fijian and British national and former journalist Charlie Charters has been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
He is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting an unknown person in FICAC connected to a FICAC investigation.
Charters was held in custody for 48 hours before being formally charged by FICAC officers.

According to the Commission, the charges relate to allegations that he assisted an unknown individual in connection with offences under investigation.
Specific details surrounding the nature of the alleged assistance have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Following the laying of charges, the matter is expected to be brought before the court, where Charters will have the opportunity to enter his plea this afternoon.
Family and close friends of Charlie Charters await his arrival at the Suva Courthouse this afternoon.
