Chef Seeto Remembered as Culinary Innovator and Mentor

Local celebrity chef Lance Seeto will be remembered not only for his exceptional culinary skills but also for his roles as a teacher, storyteller, friend, and mentor.
These heartfelt tributes were shared by McDonald’s Fiji managing director Marc McElrath during the funeral service held to bid farewell to Mr Seeto yesterday.
Colleagues, family members, and friends of the late chef gathered at the Dignified Crematorium in Davuilevu yesterday to bid farewell to Mr Seeto, a beloved Fijian celebrity chef.

Mr Seeto was found dead in his Suva apartment on October 28. Police investigations ruled out any element of foul play over his death.
Delivering his eulogy, Mr McElrath described Mr Seeto as an extraordinary man.
He had a passion for creativity and food, he said.
“Through his food, he shared the tale of his heritage, his struggles and his love for the ingredients that was part of his many creations,” he said.
“He had the incredible ability to transform simple ingredients to something magical, captivating our taste buds bringing joy to our hearts. His culinary treasures were a reflection of his personality, bold, colourful and full of life.”
Mr McElrath said Mr Seeto’s commitment to sustainability and the use of local ingredients made him stand out.
Beyond the kitchen, Mr Seeto was also a celebrated author and television presenter.
His shows, Taste of Paradise and Exotic Delights, captivated audiences by exploring the depths of Fijian cuisine and its cultural significance.
Mr Seeto was also a mentor to many young chefs, nurturing talent and inspiring a new generation to embrace and innovate within the culinary arts.
His commitment to education and mentorship left an indelible mark on the industry, with countless chefs carrying forward his influence and dedication.
Mr Seeto is survived by his parents and two sisters.
