After 36 fruitful years of commendable service, outgoing Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew will retire this May.

Mr Chew who was endorsed at the helm when the Coalition Government came to power about two years ago has been praised as a man of principle and ethics.

“Challenges that we face in this organisation, you all know it, we’ve been highlighting it in the media,” Mr Chew said.

“What we have done, we learn from them, adjusted ourselves and moved forward for the betterment of the organisation and the people of Fiji that we serve.

“I have done my best – to the best of my knowledge and ability with the appointment that was given to me the last two years.

“I’m quite relieved that I’m handing over to a police officer to take the organisation forward.

Retirement

Mr Chew officially goes on leave today, and while acknowledging those who have supported him along the way, the former Administrative Commissioner masked his emotion as he addressed the media for the last time.

“My focus is now on retirement, I will be going on leave from tomorrow (today),” he said.

“This is my last day in this uniform, I wish the new Commissioner and the officers that will continue this journey – to look after the people of Fiji.”

Mr Chew’s message to young aspiring police constables is to never give up.

He said that he never dreamt of donning the leadership hat but it was all possible, thanks to the ‘man above.’

“Continue to do what is right, follow the system and the processes that are there, do what is legal at all times – you will never go wrong,” Mr Chew added.
