Fiji’s lead negotiator at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) Ambassador Amena Yauvoli has confirmed discussions to secure representation on the Loss and Damage fund’s upcoming board, in a bid to ensure that the right decisions are made for the future of vulnerable countries.

This was after the Conference of Parties appointed Mr Yauvoli as the co-chair of the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG). COP28 President Designate, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, appointed Mr Yauvoli.

He provided insights into the progress made during the initial days of COP28 and outlined Fiji’s significant role in shaping the global climate agenda.

This appointment highlights Ambassador Yauvoli’s expertise and experience in climate negotiations.

“We are optimistic about receiving more pledges by the end of the week for funds such as the Loss and Damage Fund and the Green Climate Fund.”
