The Tui Nadogo, Ratu Ilisaniti Malodali, is calling on villages in Nadogo, Macuata, to restrict kava consumption.

This is to allow parents to spend more quality times with their children.

Ratu Ilisaniti said there was time for everything and fathers should be present at home most of the time to ensure their children were supervised.

“A father figure is a must in a household. It allows children to have discipline that must be maintained. Wrongdoings will not be tolerated,” he said.

He said children must be taught how to behave and act in a community with religious teachings imparted by parents.

“Children or youths nowadays are into technology and criminal activities, which are not healthy if we want to continue our village legacy of unity, peace and growth.”

Ratu Ilisaniti said the next 10 years would be critical to understand the landscape of whether youths remained on track to succeed in life or take national responsibilities or not.

He said youths must educate themselves well and secure good jobs to avoid being brainwashed by culprits who take an opportunity to draft them into drug peddling.

In previous interviews, he warned people in the village or settlements in Nadogo against the cultivation of marijuana.

“Don’t plant such illegal drugs. Focus on other forms of farming to boost income,” he said.

With police encouraging community-police partnership, Ratu Ilisaniti said more efforts were needed at family level to ensure children were involved in religious and traditional activities.
