Chiefs holding positions in political parties will be asked to resign from their positions in political parties.
This is the word from Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu ahead of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting at the Lagoon Resort in Pacific Harbour today.
The latest to announce her resignation was the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa, who resigned from the Social Democratic Liberal Party last Friday.

She is believed to be a contender for the chairmanship role of the GCC that would be appointed at the meeting today.\ Mr Vasu was questioned on how they would implement the recommendation by the GCC review committee, suggesting that the GCC should be independent and politically neutral.
He said every chief had a political affiliation.
