Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, has highlighted the significant impact that establishing direct flights between Fiji and China would have on both tourism and investment opportunities for Fiji.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had earlier mentioned of talks on this issue have been ongoing between the two countries.
“The two sides are enhancing communication in establishing direct flights,” Ambassador Zhou stated.

“With direct flights, more and more tourists would come over. Together with tourists, investors and hotel builders will visit Fiji.”
He pointed out that while Fiji boasts beautiful beaches and warm-hearted, friendly people, the lack of direct international flights remains a major bottleneck.
“I always tell my friends, we have a better beach, we have warm-hearted people, friendly people, but there is one bottleneck — we have no direct flights,” he said.
Mr Zhou noted that countries like Australia and China, as well as China and New Zealand, have frequent direct flights, making travel between those nations far more accessible.
He said direct flights between Fiji and China would unlock significant opportunities for both countries.
“I’m glad that we are about to come to the negotiation table to discuss this,” the ambassador said.
“I hope there will be good news. We cannot wait for the opportunities that will open up for Fiji.”
