China gives $100,000 for Gita relief assistance

PM: We have emergency personnel on the ground in affected areas distributing relief supplies.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainima­rama has acknowledged the Chi­nese government for its recent contribution of $100,000.

Mr Bainimarama said the contribu­tion was going towards the disaster relief assistance to Fijians affected by Tropical Cyclone Gita; Gita had af­fected Fijians in Southern Lau.

“By way of an update, our Repub­lic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers have carried out their disaster relief assessment and we have emergency personnel on the ground in affected areas distributing relief supplies and helping those communities get back on their feet,” the PM said.

Meanwhile, a disaster management team left for Southern Lau last Sun­day to assess the cyclone damage.
