China supports Fijiana Sevens Team with $10,000 donation

The Fijiana Sevens Team and its delegation were all smiles on Friday after receiving a $10,000 donation from the Chinese Government.

In his open remarks, the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian said the donation was a demonstration of China's continuous support for women development in Fiji.

"This donation will showcase China and Fiji's firm commitment to women's empowerment," Mr Zhou said.

The first lady, Emily Lalabalavu, Prime Minister's wife, Sulueti Rabuka and the Parliament speaker's wife, Elina Jitoko were guest of honors at the International Women's Day celebration at the Chinese Embassy on Friday.

Manager of the Fijiana Sevens team, Luse Kotobalavu expressed  her gratitude to the Chinese government for the continuous support for the team but women in rugby.

Ms Kotobalavu commended their belief and investment in women rugby leaving an incredible mark in Fiji Rugby.

"The Fijiana Sevens Team is a shining example of what can be achieved when women are given the opportunity to enhance itself," she said.

"They're role models, trail blazers and ambassadors of Fiji."

Ambassador Zhou is adamant that 10 years from now, Fiji and China will have a progressive relationship in women development.
