A Fijian pastor says in his five years of living in New Zealand, he has never experienced such a horrific tragedy.
Christian Mission Fellowship Christchurch senior pastor Jim Wasasala was only five minutes away from the Linwood Mosque when he heard screams, saw panic and heard Police sirens.
He was at a grocery store when the incident happened.

“I heard people shouting and screaming and Police sirens and I wondered what had happened,” he said.
Pastor Wasasala said he did not know about the shooting until his children called to ask of his whereabouts and safety.
“We are safe. But my heart is heavy as I think of the families involved and their loved ones,” he said.
Pastor Wasasala said he’s experienced earthquakes in the South Island but yesterday’s shooting was more fearful.
He had messaged the church members across Christchurch and confirmed that they were safe.
All their church programmes last night was cancelled because of the lockdown.
“We’re grateful for all the love, thoughts and prayers towards the city, families and friends in Christchurch.”
He also stated that the School Polyfest which was to be held today at Hagley Park was cancelled.
Pastor Wasasala lives about seven minutes away from the Linwood Mosque with his wife, Leu Wasasala.
