Church endorses Truth and Reconciliation Commission

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has endorsed the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Reconciliation and Restoration Programme.
This initiative by the RFMF aims to foster healing and enhance unity both within the military and the broader community, demonstrating a commitment to collective growth and national progress.
The Church’s General Secretary, Reverend Jolame Lasawa, emphasised the importance of the programme.

He also praised the government for proposing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
“We are also supporting the idea of truth and reconciliation. The one Government is doing, we have sent one of our representatives,” Reverend Lasawa said.
The Steering Committee on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is consulting with various stakeholders, including civil society leaders, faith groups, political parties, and media organisations, to refine the draft legal framework.
Chaired by Assistant Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Sashi Kiran, the Committee aims to develop the legal, governance, and financial framework for the Commission.
The chair of the committee will report directly to the Prime Minister.
