CID probes social media threat to burn Suva

Police also reminded members of the public to use social media responsibly.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating a social media post that threatened unrest in Suva and called for the removal of Fiji’s Constitution.

Police said the post, which issued an ultimatum demanding the Constitution be removed before threatening to burn the capital city, is being examined by Digital Forensics investigators.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police also reminded members of the public to use social media responsibly.

While freedom of expression and speech is protected, Police said those rights must be exercised responsibly and in accordance with the law.

Police warned that the misuse of social media and any breach of the law would not be tolerated.
