A special team within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been established to assess the findings of the recently submitted Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has confirmed.

The move follows the formal handover of the report by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to the Commissioner.

"The Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirms receiving the Commission of Inquiry report from the Honourable Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka today," a statement from the police yesterday said.

This masthead has established that informal questioning and preliminary assessments have started as part of the internal review process.

"A dedicated team from the Criminal Investigations Department has been tasked to analyse the report and make recommendations on the next course of action with regard to investigations, as per the findings of the report," Mr Tudravu said.

Prime Minister Rabuka also confirmed the report has been formally referred to the police and that its public release will depend on the outcome of their initial review.

"I deal with the report and what is recommended in the report, and the recommendation is that it be released to the police," Mr Rabuka said.

"The report can be released publicly, but that depends on what we get back from the Commissioner of Police. He has just come out of the office, and they will now carry out their initial investigation."
