City Suburbs Brace For Low Water Supply, Drought Warning

More reservoirs in the Suva-Nausori corridor are experiencing low production levels, according to the Water Authority of Fiji.

WAF issued an advisory yesterday for areas being supplied by the Flagstaff and Toorak Reservoirs. Two days prior to this, a similar advisory was issued for the Tacirua areas.

And as usual members of the public in those areas have been advised to store water to last two to three days and to use water wisely.

Toorak resident Gyanendra Singh said infrastructure must be improved because the same old reservoirs are feeding the system and the number of people consuming water have increased.

Flagstaff resident Luke Tuisinu said people should take heed of this warning and store water.

“Water is more important than electricity, especially with COVID-19 around,” he said.

WAF said water carting trucks were on standby and could be requested in a case of emergency by calling the short code on 1507 from any mobile network.

The Fiji Meteorological Services confirmed that apart from the Central Division all other areas in Fiji were under meteorological drought, drought warning or drought watch according to their November rainfall watch.

Areas affected from Flagstaff Reservoir: Ratu Sukuna Road, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Muanikau Road, Laucala Bay Road, McGregor Road, Domain Road, Victoria Parade from Sukuna Park to Nasese, Amy Street, Johnson Street, Spring Street, High Street, Stewart Street, Brown Street.
