Fiji Law Society president Wylie Clark thanked the coalition government for the complete change in tone experienced by legal practitioners over the past 12 months since coming into power.
“It is nearly 12 months to the day since we had our conference at Pacific Harbour."
And on that conference, we had the privilege of having the Attorney General give the keynote address there and I recall vividly, they were giddy days,” he said.

He made the comments during the society’s annual convention at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island yesterday.
“I’m pleased to say it has fulfilled a lot of that promise, in the sense we have a wonderful relationship with Government and we acknowledge the openness, the responsiveness and just the general cooperative approach that Government has adopted to the Law Society, because it wasn’t like that for a long time,” he said.
He said despite the constant development of technology, legal practioners duties remained the same, in particular to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights and the vulnerable.
“How each of us responds to this both individually and collectively in relation to our communities, all minorities are women and children who endure disparity, poverty, marginalisation and in some cases, violence,” he said.
“I hasten to add that as you will learn over the next two days, AI (Artificial Intelligence) will change how we practise law, like it will change everything else that’s going on in our world, there is a lot we need to know.”
